“If a man has an apartment stacked to the ceiling with newspapers we call him crazy. If a woman has a trailer house full of cats we call her nuts. But when people pathologically hoard so much cash that they impoverish the entire nation, we put them on the cover of Fortune magazine and pretend that they are role models.”

Vermont News: Cris Ericson Independent 2006, gets less votes than in 2004 as Marijuana Party

Cris Ericson announces she is the MARIJUANA PARTY candidate for 2008! Cris Ericson, ran as an Independent candidate for U.S. Senate and for Governor of Vermont 2006, and came in 3rd for both offices, but with fewer votes than in 2004 when she went on the ballot as the Marijuana party candidate for Vermont!

Cris Ericson officially announces she is the Marijuana party candidate for Governor of Vermont 2008 and the Marijuana Party candidate for U.S. House of Representatives to Congress 2008.

In 2006 Cris Ericson ran as an Independent candidate for U.S. Senator of Vermont and for Governor of Vermont 2006 and came in 3rd out of six candidates for each office: http://www.nytimes.com/ref/elections/2006/VT.html

In 2004 Cris Ericson ran as the Marijuana party candidate for Vermont for U.S. Senate and for Governor and came in 3rd for each office out of six candidates for each office: http://www.times.com/ref/elections2004/2004VT.html .

The problem is, Cris received more total votes as the Marijuana party candidate in 2004 than she did as an Independent candidate in 2006, even though she still came in third for two offices out of six candidates for each of two offices.

"To thine own self be true!" is age old advice Cris now considers as she firmly steps in and announces she is running for Governor of Vermont 2008 and for U.S. House of Representatives to the U.S. Congress 2008 as THE MARIJUANA PARTY candidate.

Vermont does not officially have a Marijuana Party formed, but under the law in Vermont, an Independent candidate may chose up to three descriptive words after their name on the ballot, so Cris Ericson will chose Marijuana for 2008, and therefore go on the ballot with the legal Marijuana party designation.

Cris was hoping to increase her votes in 2006 by adding more issues and trying to broaden her voting base. Instead, she alienated Marijuana supporters.

It is more important to try to bring more marijuana users "out of the closet" than to try to broaden support by adding issues, because people who support other perfectly valid issues like better health care and environmental clean up and protecting our lakes and streams do not necessarily support marijuana legalization.

So, the best strategy for marijuana legalization is to work harder to get marijuana users to support marijuana candidates and to get more people to help legalize marijuana. It is important to get more marijuana legalization supporters to help with campaigns for all make marijuana legal candidates, passing out campaign literature, putting videos on public access t.v. of candidates who want to legalize marijuana.

Marijuana legalization candidates have to use public access t.v. as much as possible, but that means finding supporters in each area of each state to submit their videos to public access stations!!!!!

Cris Ericson submitted video DVD's to every public access station in Vermont but only a few played it. Many public access stations have a rule that a local resident of that area has to sign a consent form and "sponsor" the video or DVD.

Even though Cris Ericson ran for Governor 2006 and for U.S. Senate 2006 and even though her video DVD covered a lot of other issues with only a mention of marijuana, most public access stations did not respond to her.

Even though Cris had a request on her website for volunteers to call to hand out campaign cards, no one volunteered.

It is a shame that so many people want marijuana to be legalized, and Cris couldn't find help with her 2006 campaign.

Organizations like NORML snubbed her even though she was the only candidate in Vermont running for U.S. Senate and Governor who supported marijuana legalization.

Well, without help, Cris Ericson came in 3rd for Governor and for U.S. Senate out of six candidates for each office, if anyone helps with her 2008 campaign, maybe she will win, and Cris Ericson will make marijuana legal!

I'll support ya. I might now be of great support in the physical sense (California is a wee bit away from Vermont), I can help you with more campaign oriented issues. I wish you all the luck in your future bouts. I am sixth generation Californian, which means that my father was a hippy, but I fully support freedom of expression and "pursuit of happiness."
