“If a man has an apartment stacked to the ceiling with newspapers we call him crazy. If a woman has a trailer house full of cats we call her nuts. But when people pathologically hoard so much cash that they impoverish the entire nation, we put them on the cover of Fortune magazine and pretend that they are role models.”

Vermont News: VT Marijuana Decriminalization Bill Introduced

PoliticsLobby Day February 13th

From: The Marijuana Policy Project

Yesterday, Rep. David Zuckerman (P-Burlington) and 18 co-sponsors introduced H.150. This legislation will reduce the penalty for possessing up to an ounce of marijuana from up to six months in jail to a $100 civil fine.

If you have not already done so, please contact your representative now and urge him or her to support this sensible legislation.

The Vermont Alliance for Intelligent Drug Laws (VALID), an MPP grantee, is organizing volunteers across the state to support this commonsense legislation. On Friday, February 13, VALID is hosting a lobby day at the State House in Montpelier from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. This will be an excellent opportunity to talk directly with your legislators, so please try to attend. If you might be interested in attending, please e-mail Nancy Lynch at [email protected] ...

The introduction of H.150 has already gotten some good coverage in the Vermont media. You can read some of it here, here, and here. So now is also a great time to get some letters to the editor published in support of H.150. If you would like help writing a letter, please e-mail me at [email protected]

A recent Mason-Dixon poll found 63% of Vermont voters support this commonsense change in the law. But your legislators need to hear from you so they can see this support firsthand. Please take action now.

Thank you for supporting MPP and our allies. Please pass this message on to your friends, family, and e-mail lists in Vermont.

Sincerely,

Zane Hurst
